Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles premieres next week and with it comes a renewed interest in the franchise.
Consulting Producer James Middleton and star Lena Headey participated in a press conference this morning and revealed a few details about the series as well the upcoming films and an animated tie-in akin to the Animatrix.
Though the series establishes itself in an alternate timeline to the one we see in Terminator 3, that doesn’t necessarily preclude some kind of link between the series and the upcoming films. As Middleton (who is serving as a producer on both) says, “I think that they will naturally cross-promote each other. In terms of narrative timelines, what we’ve done with the television show is create an entirely new timeline. We’ll be following Sarah’s journey through a different timeline. It’s a completely new expression of the franchise in that way… “
The animated tie-in (currently called Termination) will be released sometime after the new film hits the big screen in late summer 2009. It will feature a number of short animated features from different areas of the Terminator universe.
Inspired directly by Terminator 2 rather than Terminator 3, the television series establishes its own versions of Sarah and John Connor. When asked about the possibility of a role for Robert Patrick, Middleton responded, “We’re just going to leave that to the future. We don’t have any immediate plans for that,” but then added, “Robert Patrick is a fantastic actor and you never know.”
Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles premieres this Sunday, January 13th.
