Headey Enjoys Training for ‘Terminator‘ Action Sequences

FOX’s Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles is most definitely a high-action series, with explosions, crashes and shoot-outs rocking the screen on almost every episode. The action sequences entail rigorous training for the show stars, but this doesn’t bother British actress Lena Headey.

“I’ve always loved keeping fit,” Headey, who plays the television adaptation of Sarah Connor on the new Terminator series, told TV Guide while on a break from filming. She has trained in a gritty South London boxing gym, which accounts for some of her fighting skills. “It gives you great concentration, which I don’t possess naturally.”

Headey’s abilities have not been lost on consulting producer James Middleton.

“Lena can summon an internal fierceness that is incredibly important for this role. There’s a fire in her,” he said.

Lena Headey leads the cast of Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, which is a small screen adaptation of the popular film franchise starring Arnold Schwarzenneger. The series, which debuted on FOX on January 13 and settled into its regular Monday night timeslot the following evening, picks up two years after the 1991 film Terminator: Judgment Day left off. Sarah is training her teen son, John (Thomas Dekker, Heroes), to be the savior of the human race, all the while trying to make sure she fulfills her parental duties as well.

“You are looking at someone who’s trying to be a great mom and give her kid normality, and at the same time they’re both aware that their day job is to save the world,” Lena Headey explained, adding that the mother-son relationship will be further explored, giving the series a softer touch amidst all the action.

“It’s a different time,” she said. “We get to know Sarah more. I think she was a closed door emotionally in the movies, and here you’re getting to see her and John [interact more].”

Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles airs Monday nights at 9/8c on FOX.
